John K. HinelyAttorney at Law
After 14 years in Law Enforcement, and working under contract for the Public Defender’s Office, Mr. Hinely was determined to become a Criminal Defense Attorney.
Mr. Hinely returned to school at California State University-Chico, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science, with an emphasis on Legal Studies; then continued his education at Cal-Northern School of Law in Chico, California.
Upon completion of law school, Mr. Hinely sat for the California State Bar exam and passed on the first attempt.
Mr. Hinely opened a private law practice, while also serving as a Contract Public Defender. During this time, Mr. Hinely recognized that the Public Defender Offices were extremely impacted and forced to handle many more cases than could be appropriately researched, investigated, and prepared for court. People accused of crimes were falling victim to Public Defender Offices that were so overworked that it was impossible to give the attention to detail that each case deserved.
Subsequently, Mr. Hinely made the decision to terminate the Public Defender position and focus on his private practice, providing clients with the time and care needed to appropriately prepare their case for court; and at an affordable price.
Mr. Hinely has achieved a 10 out of 10 Superb AVVO rating; been selected as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer from the National Trial Lawyers Association; and has handled cases from simple petty theft to complex homicides.
Mr. Hinely previously worked for the California Attorney General’s Office and has lectured on the subject of Criminal Justice at California State University-Chico on several occasions.
